Hauraki Rail Trail
“The laid-back Hauraki Rail Trail is a Great Ride for all ages. With its gentle terrain and abundance of accommodation, cafes and restaurants, it’s one of the easiest and most satisfying trails in the North Island.
Leisurely riding traces the Shorebird Coast, quaint historic towns, lush farmlands, a historic railway corridor through the Karangahake Gorge, and then heads South to Matamata, home of the Hobbiton Movie Set. With options to explore the Coromandel further, it’s the perfect getaway for a relaxed 4-5 day adventure.”

Historical Maritime Park
The Historical Maritime Park has a significant collection of local importance relating to the history of the town of Paeroa and the Hauraki Plains region.
As New Zealand’s only inland port, the Museum has significant links dating back to pre-European settlement and the arrival of Captain James Cook in 1769 in HMS Endeavour.
The port was the main catalyst in the expansion of the Waihi gold mines prior to the introduction of the railway in 1905. It also played a significant role in the early growth of the Paeroa township.
The Historical Maritime Park and Museum is maintained and serviced by volunteers from our community. It is an exciting project in progress.
